Trout’s began in Woody, California as “Trout’s Station” in 1937; in 1941, founder Ralph Trout moved his establishment to it’s second location in Bakersfield, across the street from its current location at 805 N Chester Avenue, where the nightclub has been in operation since 1945. 

As the last of the original Bakersfield “Honky Tonk” nightclubs, Trout’s expanded in 2007 and opened the new Blackboard Stage to a very special New Years Eve 2008 double stage show featuring Wade Hayes, Terry Hanson and the Westerners, and Kevin Blake Willard and the Cadillac Cowboys.

The walls inside the club are lined with celebrity signature guitars and “Bakersfield Sound” era memorabilia.  Massive portraits of key players in the development of the Bakersfield Sound were commissioned by management from local artist Patti Doolittle and are on display inside the club, as are motorcycles from local dealer, Valley Cycle and Motorsports. 

With over 7,000 sq ft; including the new 1,400 sq ft hardwood “floating” bamboo dance floor at the new Blackboard Stage combined with the original oak hardwood floor at the original Trout’s Legends Stage.  State of the art sound, lighting, and media systems are just part of the upgrades that have been undertaken, with audio/video digital/analog recording (with green room technology) recently being made available to the local independent music community.  The “Acoustic Community Workshop” and “Audio/Video Recording Jam” sessions have been well received by the community and management looks forward to increased local participation, as well as to providing even more resources and promotion, recording,  networking, and marketing opportunities.

The primary goal for the future is to provide resources to local artists, musicians, and the community, as well as to continue to offer live music 7 nights a week, as well as other entertainment options such as karaoke Tuesday through Sunday nights, and line dance lessons Tuesday through Friday nights, as well as acoustic jam sessions and songwriter workshops on a regular basis throughout the week.
